The Comedy Network has wall-to-wall stand-up comedy specials for Canada Day. The line-up is solid stuff for the most part –I am not a fan of Jeff Dunham-- but Canadian representation is limited to Russell Peters. I am sure The Comedy Network could have done a bit of research in its archives and come up with some interesting vintage shows. Maybe next year.
It is a strong line-up though. Starting July 1st at 6 AM with Just For Laughs A Tribute to Nerds and followed with: Just For Laughs Amp'd 7 AM; Russell Peters Red White and Brown 8 AM and The Green Card Tour at 9 AM; Gabriel Iglesias – I'm Not Fat, Im Fluffy 10 AM; John Pinette - Still Hungry 11 AM; Robin Williams Weapons of Self-Destruction at 12 PM; Norm MacDonald Me Doing Stand-up 2 PM, Denis Leary and Friends Douchebags and Donuts 3 PM; Jeff Dunham Spark of Insanity and Controlled Chaos starting at 4 PM; and ending with ther two Russell Peters specials at 5 PM.
Many of the shows will also air on June 30th with the addition of Daniel Tosh Happy Thoughts 1 pm; Danny Bhoy – Subject to Change 2 pm; Williams – Weapons of Self Destruction 3 pm; Peters – Red, White, and Brown 8 pm; Peters – Green Card Tour 9 pm; Dunham Spark of Insanity 10 pm; Dunham – Controlled Chaos 11 pm; Carlin – Jammin in New York 12 am; Rock – Kill the Messenger 1:15 am
Comedy specials to watch out for in July are the new Hannibal Buress, Animal Furnace July 14th at 9 PM which is very good, Steve Byrne, The Byrne Idendity Jjuly 28th at 9 PM.
Most intriguing is The Pee Wee Herman Show on Broadway July 7th at 9 PM
This is good stuff but I still think a more Canadian line-up for Canada Day would be appreciated. I remember a CFCF-12 (CTV) anniversary where they aired 1 episode of fan favorites over the years. A Canada Day special with an episode of The Forest Rangers and other famous Canadian TV shows, a couple of early Comedy Now!, a Mike McDonald special or two, Wayne and Schuster if possible, and so on would be cool.
