Comedy Movies - Wreck-It Ralph

Wreck-It Ralph
Starring: John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman and Jane Lynch
Director: Rich Moore
Disney Animation Studios

Wreck-It Ralph is the perfect title for this funny, charming and thoroughly entertaining movie featuring the voice skills of the journeyman actor John C. Reilly and the razor tongued Sarah Silverman. The voice cast is replete with top talent: Jane Lynch at a cross between Master Chief and Sue Sylvester (Glee), Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) as Fix it Felix, SF and Suburgatory fans will love Adam Tudyk as King Candy. There is not a moment in the movie which will disappoint any film goer. The best lines in the movie go to Sarah Silverman as Vanellope.

The premise of Wreck-It Ralph is simple enough: Ralph has been the villain in a game called Fix-It Felix for almost thirty years and wants a change of profession. Ralph is tired of always being the bad guy. There is only one thing for Ralph to do and that is flee his game and try to become a good guy. Like everything in the movies, and life too, that is much easier said than done.

Whether or not someone is a hardcore gamer, gaming has been around for long enough that many of the game references be they arcade, Nintendo or Microsoft, are easily understood by most of the audience. Even if the young ones do not understand references to Qbert or PacMan the look and feel of those characters is so eight bit that they know that the characters are from old games. Well done animated movies always work both for children and the adults who accompany the children to the cinema. The layers of story telling and references to games and even Internet memes is so well done as to leave no gaps in the story at all. There are no holes in the plot to speak of in Wreck-It Ralph. There are no unexploded bombs at the end of the movie. Every detail is accounted for. Wreck-It Ralph is seamless story telling, great artwork, voice work and direction from start to finish. In short it is worth your time to see it on the big screen and when it comes out on DVD, Blu-Ray or for download it is a must add to any home movie collection.
