Comedy Movies - The Truth About Love

The Truth About Love
Jennifer Love Hewitt, Dougray Scott, Jimi Mistry
Directed by John Hay
kaBOOM! Entertainment 2006

The Truth About Love is a romantic comedy DVD about a woman who inadvertently discovers her husband has a mistress, while playing a joke on him. Things get even more complicated when the audience discovers that her husband's best friend is in love with her. Jennifer Love Hewitt stars in this cute little comedy and is believable in her role as a desperate woman willing to do anything to keep her husband.

Filmed on location in England, this romantic comedy DVD is surprisingly good. I was prepared to sit through drivel, however The Truth About Love came through. Jennifer Love Hewitt is able to pull of the British accent quite convincingly. Starring opposite Jimi Mistry as the plausibly slimy husband and Dougray Scott as the ever-present and understanding best friend, Love Hewitt clearly shows that she is more than just a pretty face. She shows an excellent range of performance, and I really "bought" her character's confusion, disbelief, and ultimately anger.

Despite the good performances, The Truth About Love looses steam in the writing department. The concept behind the movie is not realistic, and if you were to analyze the characters and their actions, you would get angry at Love Hewitt's character for not taking a different course of action. This romantic comedy DVD doesn't ring true.

The music used in this movie is also worth mentioning.  It is well used to set and change the ambience, and the collection of songs is eclectic and interesting.

Over all, I would say The Truth About Love is not excellent, but good in spite of the wonderful performances.
